If water is running over the front lip of the gutter instead of down the downspout, the gutter is not draining, and the trouble is usually a packed downspout rather than the trough itself. Gutter cleaning in Salem is mostly a question of getting the packed material out and confirming water actually moves once it is gone.

Salem Gutter Works clears gutters across Salem and the surrounding towns. Call (503) 713-6224 for a free estimate.

Signs your gutters need clearing

  • Water sheeting over the edge during rain rather than running to a downspout
  • A downspout that stays dry in a downpour, which means it is blocked
  • Plants growing out of the gutter, which means there is soil in there
  • Streaking or staining down the fascia and siding
  • Water pooling against the foundation or in the crawlspace
  • Gutters visibly sagging between hangers, which means they are carrying weight
  • Birds or wasps nesting in a run

If none of these are happening and the gutters were cleared in the last six months, they may be fine. We will tell you that rather than sell you a cleaning you do not need.

How a gutter cleaning is actually done

Ladder set and inspection. Standoffs go on the ladder so it rests on the roof rather than the gutter. A ladder leaned directly on aluminum bends it, and that bend is where the next leak starts.

Hand clearing. Debris comes out by hand and into a bag or bucket, not flicked onto the lawn or the flower beds. On a heavy job the bags come down as they fill.

Downspout check and flush. Every downspout gets water run through it. A blocked one is cleared with a hose, an auger or by opening the elbow, whichever the blockage calls for.

Trough flush. Water runs the length of the run to move what the hands missed and to confirm the pitch still carries water to the outlet.

Pitch and hanger check. While the ladder is up, we look at whether the run still slopes correctly, whether any hangers have pulled, and whether the seams are holding. Anything we find gets reported with a price, not fixed without asking.

Cleanup. Debris leaves with us. Downspout splash areas get rinsed.

What gutter cleaning costs in Salem

Job Typical range in Salem
Single story, up to about 150 feet of gutter $150 to $250
Two story $200 to $350
Three story, or steep and awkward access $300 to $450
Priced by the foot instead $1.00 to $1.75 per foot
Clearing one blocked downspout $50 to $125
Removing and refitting gutter guards to clean underneath add $50 to $100
Roof blow off added to the same visit add $75 to $150

These are typical Salem-area ranges, not a quote. Access is what moves the number most: a single story with clear ground on all four sides and a two story with a fenced side yard, a deck and a steep pitch are very different jobs even at identical footage. Call (503) 713-6224, or send a photo to salemgutterworks@gmail.com, for a written price, free and with no obligation.

What moves the price: stories, total footage, how packed the debris is, guard removal, number of downspouts, and whether a ladder can be set safely everywhere it needs to go.

What to expect on the day

Most single story cleanings take one to two hours, two stories two to three. You do not need to be home as long as we can reach the ground on all sides and get through any gates.

Move cars off the driveway near the downspouts if you can, and unlock side gates. It is not a quiet job, because ladders move and downspouts get knocked, but there is no machinery running.

Afterward, the ground under the downspouts gets rinsed. If a gutter has been overflowing for a while there may be staining on the siding that a cleaning will not remove, and we will point it out rather than pretend it went away.

Questions people ask

How much does gutter cleaning cost in Salem?

Most Salem homes land between $150 and $350 depending on stories and footage. A single story with easy access sits at the bottom of that, a two story with guards to remove and several blocked downspouts at the top. You get a written price before anything starts.

How long does it take?

One to two hours for a single story, two to three for a two story. A badly packed gutter that has not been touched in several years takes longer, and we will say so when we quote rather than halfway through.

Do I need to be home?

No, as long as we can get to all sides of the house and any gates are unlocked. We will text when we are finished and send photos of anything we found.

Will you fix what you find?

We will tell you and give you a price. We do not do extra work and add it to the bill. Small things like reseating a hanger are often done on the spot at no charge, and anything larger is a separate conversation. See our gutter repair page.
